Barbara Paierl

Barbara Paierl began playing the clarinet at the age of nine, but after a short time the saxophone revealed itself to her, with which, along with several other instruments, she wanted to pursue her musical path.

She studied her instrument at the Jazz Department in Graz, as well as at the iPop Institute at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

In 2008 she was awarded the Hans Koller Prize, Austria’s largest jazz award, and subsequently spent some time in New York.

A very active musician with a focus on jazz and popular music, she is, among other things, a multi-instrumentalist and background singer with Anna F., has played with Alex Deutsch, Jamaladeen Tacuma, Peter Herbert and collaborates with electronic-hero Wolfgang Frisch (Sofa Surfers), the Italian singer Katika as well as the electroswinger and lightning poet “Herr Tischbein”.

Barbara Paierl loves the “colorful” and authentic in music, which is also reflected in her stylistic diversity. With her energetic and dynamic playing she captivates on small, as well as on large, international stages.
