6TH WACHAU ADVENT AT DÜRNSTEIN CASTLE
It glows, crackles and smells again in the romantic courtyard of Dürnstein Castle, which provides an enchanting setting for the Wachau Advent. The idyllic castle ruins sparkle in the background, the Danube lies at the visitors’ feet, the monastery in sight. For the sixth time already, the impressive scenery alone immediately puts visitors to the Wachau Advent in Dürnstein Castle in the best pre-Christmas mood.
But not only the environment is impressive, also the offer makes the Wachau Advent a special event in the whole month of December. Because at Dürnstein Castle you will find only the very best during the three weekends: the best punch and the spiciest mulled wine, the most delicious delicacies and the finest pastries and, of course, the most fantastic gift ideas for the festive season.
An enticing aroma of fresh chestnuts, fire patches, barbecue smoker and local fish stew permeates the courtyard, everywhere tempting delicious Christmas cookies or Kletzenbrot. But not only at the stalls in the courtyard of the castle you can enjoy, all the delicacies you can also take home! Raw milk cheese or Kaspressknödel or fresh and smoked organic fish, specialties from the quail, pestos or wonderful brandies, liqueurs and jams.
Already at the beginning of the ride you will drive along the skyline of Vienna, further past the Kahlenberg and the monastery Klosterneuburg. The 2 hour break in Dürnstein offers time to walk around and explore.
There are 18 river power plants along the entire Danube route, nine of which are located along the 350 km of the Austrian Danube. These are operated by Verbund AG, which is also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the lock facilities. On your journey you will pass the Greifenstein lock and Altenwörth lock.
