Information for people with special needs

Experience the Danube in a new way! – we make it possible for all guests. We have put together all important information for your boat tours. However, please inform yourself before your planned tour to clarify any changes about the appointed ship.

Please refer to our timetable or website for all information about our cruises. Our employees at the ticket office and our crew members on board will be happy to advise and be of service to you!

We will also gladly inform you if you call +43 1 588 80 or write an e-mail to info@ddsg-blue-danube.at.

Wheelchair users

Our information applies to normal wheelchairs.

BOOKING

Use of wheelchairs must be disclosed before all trips. Ideally, you should reserve your desired trip at least one week in advance, as we will need to increase the crew size once a certain number of wheelchairs is present. Walking aids and rollators are welcome to use and take on board. We recommend registering in advance for these cases as well.

BOAT TRIPS WITH INCLUDED BUS TRANSFERS

Unfortunately, wheelchair users can not be transported by bus on day trips with bus transfers. This does not apply to guests who are not permanently wheelchair-bound and can board and disembark a bus independently. The wheelchair must be foldable and able to be stowed in the bus’s cargo area.

ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIRS

Electric wheelchairs can be used on the three ships: MS Admiral Tegetthoff, MS Dürnstein, and MS Wachau. Special reinforced ramps are available on board the sister ships, MS Admiral Tegetthoff and MS Dürnstein, to help navigate the two staircases at the ship’s entrance.

Heavy multifunctional wheelchairs or nursing wheelchairs unfortunately can not be permitted. The ramps are intended only for the boarding area of the ship, they can not be used to overcome stairs leading on or off the piers.

WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE MOORINGS

Please take note that barrier-free entry and exit is not possible for every station. The boarding of the excursion boats takes place at a slight angle, depending on the water level, via a wheelchair-accessible transition bridge to a floating pontoon and then further onto the ship. If possible, ramps are provided for wheelchairs to make it easier to negotiate the entry step. The wheelchair usually has to be lifted for this entry and exit process. Our crew will be happy to help you get on and off!

Please inform yourself before embarking about the ship and the planned berths, especially taking note of the boarding heights.

The berths are usually designed for a boarding height of 90 cm or 150 cm. Depending on how compatible our ships are with these boarding heights, barrier-free boarding may or may not be possible.

BARRIER-FREE BERTHS
WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE SHIPS

Infants & toddlers

Strollers are welcome on board. We recommend booking all cruises in advance and informing us about which type of stroller (e.g., folding buggy, toddler sleeper, etc.) you will be using, so that we can reserve a table with the appropriate space for you. Please note, however, that there is no dedicated storage area for strollers on the ships.

On children’s themed cruises, please try to use alternative transportation options (baby slings, etc.), as we unfortunately cannot provide sufficient space for a lot of strollers at once.

Don’t forget to bring toys and games to keep your children entertained during the cruise. On board the MS Austria, there is a dedicated play area on the main deck at the stern for our youngest passengers. The other ships unfortunately do not have play areas for children.

Blind passengers

For your own safety, blind guests can only travel with an accompanying adult. We recommend booking all cruises to accommodate the special needs of blind passengers.

deaf passengers

We recommend that you book all cruises in advance and inform us so we can accommodate for your specific needs.

dogs

Dogs are generally transported free of charge, but must be muzzled and leash-wearing. We recommend that you inform us beforehand that you are planning to bring your dog when making your reservation.

Assistance dogs, including guide dogs, service dogs, and signal dogs that have passed a state-recognized test and are registered as assistance dogs in the disability card, are not required to wear muzzles and leashes.

Defibrillator

All our ships are equipped with a defibrillator. Our crew and service personnel receive recurring first aid training. A defibrillator is a medical device designed to restore the heart’s normal rhythm by delivering a strong but brief electrical shock in the event of a life-threatening cardiac arrhythmia (known as ventricular fibrillation).
